About Us
We moved from Cambridge to the Scottish Highlands in 2009. Initially we lived on the Isle of Tanera Mòr in the Summer Isles, managing the island and its small family business. Under our stewardship, Tanera Mòr was an early member of the Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape (CALL) partnership.
Moving to the mainland in 2013 enabled us to become even more integrated into the community of Coigach. Having two children in the local primary school, and aging parents requiring care, has given us first-hand experience of both the joys of – and the existential threats to - rural communities. It has deepened our commitment to helping both communities and nature thrive.
Richard
Richard is a qualified Chartered Surveyor. He spent the first seven years of his working life in London, involved in mixed use property development, working on various high-profile projects, including the redevelopment of Euston Station and the new US Embassy.
Since moving on from Tanera in 2014, Richard has worked for the Scottish Wildlife Trust, John Muir Trust and Knoydart Foundation gaining broad experience in land management, project delivery, partnership working and community engagement.
Richard has been a Board director of Coigach Community Development Company since 2017, and was elected Chair in 2021. Successes over this time include: recruiting a Chief Executive, securing a site for affordable housing development in Achiltibuie and leading on the community’s purchase of the 4,000 hectare Badentarbet Estate.
Richard enjoys all aspects of life in the North-West, particularly the opportunity to bring his children up in this magical part of the country.
Lizzie
Lizzie grew up in a farming family with parents (the Wilders) committed to nature-friendly production, so has always understood the challenges and opportunities of competing land uses. Having inherited her passion for the natural world, she studied biology and conservation at university, conducting field research on land use in central and south America.
Lizzie worked for five years with conservation organisation Fauna & Flora, with a focus on the global south - understanding the impacts of conservation projects on communities, and seeking solutions that work for both people and nature.
Lizzie continued to work for Tanera during a major construction phase from 2017-2020, gaining experience across a range of disciplines, including working with statutory bodies.
Since 2020 she has worked freelance for varied projects and partners – including CALL, the NorthWest2045 Regional Land Use Partnership, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Woodland Trust.
Lizzie is involved in various voluntary projects and community organisations, including Isle Martin Trust, which is responsible for the community-owned island.
